BSAVA Congress

BSAVA Congress is the largest event of its kind in the world. It involves three full days in March of lectures, practicals and networking opportunities with both veterinary professionals and other companies. There are several streams in the schedule such as veterinary, nursing and management, so you can choose the events of most interest and relevance to you.

Student members get discounted tickets and can watch the dedicated student stream. There is also a grant for veterinary students, details of which will be released closer to the time. Furthermore, you can apply to be a steward and get your transport, accommodation and meals paid for to help out at Congress and attend some of the talks as well.

If you’re interested for more details, you can talk to your Representatives and the BSAVA also has a dedicated website:

My BSAVA Representatives

At the University of Liverpool, we have two BSAVA Representatives, one at each of the Liverpool and Leahurst campuses. The Reps access BSAVA funding, contacts and other resources to enhance students’ experience.

They organise talks, practicals and other events at the University that cover all things small animal-related. As Reps, they also work to keep students in the loop regarding webinars the BSAVA puts on, annual events for vets and students alike such as Congress and other benefits and discounts like the ones mentioned above.

The BSAVA Reps also organise the Liverpool BSAVA Student Conference on the first weekend of January, usually a jam-packed weekend focusing on the practical skills and clinical knowledge that Liverpool students need to graduate confident and competent in small animal medicine and surgery.

Senior BSAVA Representative (Leahurst)- Iva Ivanova

Why Liverpool: When I came to Liverpool for my interview I felt at home. I fell in love with the city, its culture and its people. I am so grateful that I get to spend 5 years in such a radiant city, surrounded by so much love and positivity.

Favourite vet event: Bonfire Night

What do I like about the BSAVA: I love BSAVA’s approach towards students. I have always felt supported by them during my studies. They provide so many different resources such as free student membership, BSAVA library, BSAVA podcasts and of course the annual Congress. There’s something for everyone so we can gain experience in the areas of the veterinary profession that we are interested in.

Junior BSAVA Representative (Liverpool)-Emma Kenney

Hi, I’m Emma, BSAVA Junior rep for the University of Liverpool. BSAVA is a great organisation to be part of with a wide variety of resources aimed at students, new grads, and the more experienced vet, along with events to improve your skills in small animal practice and gain more in-depth knowledge about a topic that interests you. Another huge bonus is that as a student, membership is free! My personal interests lie within charity medicine, working with, and supporting people from low income and disadvantaged backgrounds to provide the best possible care for their pets. I also enjoy emergency and critical care work due to the fast pace and the variety of interesting cases presented. I am looking forward to working with Iva, BSAVA Senior rep, to highlight the work of the BSAVA and the many benefits of becoming a member, alongside attending the annual BSAVA congress in Manchester-hope to see you all there!
