The Sefton Panthers!
The Sefton Panthers are an established and well attended ladies rugby team made up of a majority of vet students and are welcoming to other non-vets (including medics and dentists). For many people it has allowed them to socialise and integrate with both vets in their year as well as others from higher years which you may not normally have the chance to meet. This means you will be seeing plenty of friendly faces around vet school.
Most people who join have never touched a rugby ball before starting university, so now has never been a better time to start. Our rugby team welcomes people of all shapes, sizes, skills and characters so do not be put off. We play in a local merit league and it is a great source of stress relief from an intense vet course. Last year the team finished a respectable 2nd in the final standings.
The team is formed as a 2XV team that trains twice a week with games a few Sundays a month. The team is affiliated with the Sefton Ladies who play in the Championship North 1 division after being promoted last season. Therefore, the Panthers have access to high quality training sessions and coaches. You will have the ability to develop at a pace you are comfortable with and the option to play high level women’s rugby if it something you are interested in.
As vet students we are thoroughly aware of how demanding the course is and as a result the club is set up in a supportive and low-pressure environment allowing you to play alongside your studies.
Another incredible part of the team is the social aspect outside of rugby. Both Ladies teams have several socials throughout the year which you can get involved in. The most notable events include AU nights, the Christmas sports meal, annual dinner along with plenty more.
Training - Every Tuesday and Thursday 7pm-8:30pm.
